The process of mitochondrial fusion. Mitofusin 1 and Mitofusin 2 coordinate mitochondrial fusion, giving higher oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial elongation. Optic atrophy 1 is disassembled into S-optic atrophy 1 and L-optic atrophy 1 by the action of Oma1 and Yme1L, thus participating in mitochondrial connection and the formation of mitochondrial cristae
