Liver levels of total polyamines, retinoids and its correlation in animals subjected to PH and treated with α-tocopherol and/or putrescine. Results are the mean ± SE of 5 individual observations per experimental group. Upper, total polyamines (expressed as nmol mg−1 of protein) is the sum of putrescine, spermidine, and spermine shown in Fig. 6, while retinoid levels (expressed as pmol mg−1 of protein) corresponded to the sum of retinol, retinal, and retinoic acid. Bottom, a linear regression analysis provided a significant straight correlation (p < 0.001) between fluctuations of polyamines and those of retinoids, with a high correlation coefficient (r = 0.876).
