Inhibition of phospholipase A 2 (A) and pancreatic lipase (B) activity by individual spice extracts: black pepper ( ), clove ( ), cinnamon ( ), ginger ( ), oregano ( ), paprika ( ), rosemary ( ), garlic ( ) and turmeric ( ). Values are normalized to vehicle-treated controls and expressed as the mean ± SD of at least three independent experiments. Due to color interference with the PL assay, values could not be obtained for turmeric or cinnamon at 200 μg/ml. Interference with the PLA2 assay prevented values from being obtained for garlic.
