Individual variation in osteoclast generation and activity from different donors, and the effects of cell freezing-thawing. Human osteoclasts were generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNC) as described under Materials and Methods. The results from 21 donors are presented as quantification of TRAP-positive multinucleated cell number (upper panel), and as resorbed area in the pit assay (middle panel). The results are summarized in the bottom panel. The results are shown as means ± SEM; n is a number of independent experiments.
