VA in MCF-7 cells induces apoptosis. MCF-7 (A) and MDA-MB-231 (B) cells after treatment with valproic acid at the indicated times were stained with Annexin V-FITC and PI. Apoptosis was assessed by flow cytometry. The four quadrants represent living cells (lower left, AnnexinV-/PI-), early apoptotic (lower right, Annexin V+/PI-), late apoptosis (upper right, Annexin V+/PI+) or necrotic (upper left, Annexin V-/PI+) stages. Values represent the percentages of each quadrant.
