STZ increases the expression of proinflammatory cytokines in NOD/ShiLtJ mice. STZ (180 mg/kg) or vehicle was injected intraperitoneally into 10-week-old female NOD/ShiLtJ mice (n = 3 per group). RNA was extracted from the salivary glands (a), lacrimal glands (b), and spleens (c) of STZ– or vehicle-treated mice obtained 11 days after administration of STZ, and the mRNA levels of IL-6, RORγt, IL-17, IFN-γ, and TNF-α were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, and ***P < 0.001 vs. vehicle–treated group.
