Quantification of fibrosis and fibrotic progression with cholesterol feeding and endothelial injury. Liver fibrosis was quantified in multiple microscopic imaging areas (a) with Masson’s Trichrome staining in the liver, demonstrating a significant 2.21 fold increase in fibrosis area with 1% CHOL + injury rabbits compared to 1% CHOL without injury (P < 0.005 by the Student’s t-test). b Non-injured rabbits fed 1% CHOL exhibited limited periportal fibrosis, whereas rabbits fed the same diet with endothelial injury showed marked progression of sinusoidal and periportal fibrosis as well as ballooning hepatocytes. The results shown are representative observations in multiple rabbits
