To identify neutrophils in samples of peripheral blood (A, D), BAL (B, E) and sputum (C, F), we gated on CD45+, high side-scatter cells that were positive for both CD16b (horizontal axis) and CD66b (vertical axis), relative to isotype controls (A-C). Numbers in the quadrants (D-F) represent the percent of the major neutrophil population among all CD45+ cells. In the blood analysis (panel D), a CD16b- (low) CD66b + population was also identified (R1).
