This figure shows a confocal optical section of the fornix (A–C) and a maximum projection image of the surrounding paraventricular nucleus (PV nu) zone (E–G) to reveal DCX, βIII-tubulin and DAPI staining. The linear pattern of DCX-positive fibers occasionally undergoes an enlargement that delineates the outer part of cell bodies (arrowhead in (E)). Arrows indicate fibers co-labeled for DCX and βIII-tubulin, which suggests an immature neuron phenotype. Scale bars: (A–D) = 20 μm; (E–H) = 10 μm.
