  1. Subgroups included tumor thickness (<1 mm, 1-4 mm, >4 mm), ulceration status (present/absent), anatomic site (axial/extremity), and histological type (SSM/NM). SSM = Superficial spreading melanoma, NM = Nodular melanoma. P-values that remain significant after Bonferroni correction (p < 0.0008; based on n = 64 independent tests, see Methods) are bolded. All subgroup associations were stratified by stage and adjustments included age, gender, ethnicity, anatomic site, tumor thickness, ulceration status, histological type, leaving out each dependent variable from the adjustment covariates in each respective subgroup analysis.
